The cause of the fire was under investigation, though officials ruled out acetylene torches, which were not in use Saturday by workers dismantling the building. Investigators are looking into whether the fire was started by a worker smoking, an official said.

Officers at the scene were preventing nearby residents from returning to their homes, telling them that authorities were concerned the former Deutsche Bank office building, vacant since the 2001 terrorist attacks turned it into a toxic nightmare, could fall. Mayor Michael Bloomberg said that fear turned out to be unfounded.

Skyscraper Burns Near Ground Zero

NEW YORK (AP) — A three-alarm fire in the abandoned Deustche Bank [Deutsche Bank] skyscraper sent a plume of gray smoke trailing above ground zero Saturday afternoon, though there were no immediate reports of injuries, authorities said.

The tower, left vacant since it was badly damaged during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, had flames on multiple floors, according to the Fire Department. Construction crews had been in the process of taking the building’s 40 stories down floor by floor.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

The 1.4-million square foot office tower was contaminated with toxic dust and debris after the World Trade Center’s south tower collapsed into it. Efforts to dismantle it were halted by a labor dispute last year, along with the ongoing search for the remains of attack victims.

As I watch this video, I consider if there is any way that the probable truth about 9/11 can be captured in new release of Loose Change. This firefighter testimony is valuable in many ways. However, there are so many pieces to the puzzle.

There seems no doubt in my estimation that the evidence goes completely against the idea that commercial airliners hit the towers on 9/11. What really happened instead, and how the official story was broadcast as a cover up is worthy of hours of a video presentation to itself.

There were two perfectly predictable schools of thought being expressed after the conviction of Jose Padilla on Thursday on terrorism-related charges. Supporters of the Bush administration said the conviction justified the more than three years Mr. Padilla spent in military detention before his criminal prosecution, while the administration’s opponents said the verdict proved that the criminal justice system should have handled the case in the first place.

When scientists face the question of a teleological origin of life, many view this as an extraordinary claim in need of extraordinary evidence. Yet what exactly is extraordinary evidence? Marshall’s claims were perceived as being rather extraordinary (enough to label them crazy), yet it’s difficult to see in what way his accumulated evidence were “extraordinary.” More problematic is that while a teleological origin of life may be considered an extraordinary event, there is no reason whatsoever to think extraordinary evidence would follow from this event. Put simply, the evidence for ID behind the OOL may be subtle. And if that is the case, can subtle, indirect evidence for X ever overcome the social and psychological dynamics that oppose X?

Figure 5 in Thagard’s second paper is most illuminating.
